Workshop Facilitators: JT Torres (Washington & Lee University) & Lauren Tilton (Richmond)
Description: This interactive virtual workshop blended two powerful lenses on artificial intelligence in higher education. Through W&L’s “PLAI” approach, the group experimented with AI tools in low-stakes, creative ways designed to spark curiosity and reflection. Richmond’s CLAAI model offered a critical liberal arts perspective that invited the group to interrogate AI’s social, ethical, and institutional impacts—asking what’s at stake for students, faculty, and the future of knowledge. Using creative assignments, skillful facilitation, and small group breakouts, we explored how to stay curious, skeptical, and empowered as educators in an AI-infused academic world. This session required no prior experience with AI tools – just an openness to experimentation, uncertainty, and adaptation.
