GDI :: Growing Departmental Inclusiveness Survey

The Growing Departmental Inclusiveness Survey (GDIS) is a tool designed for university departments to assess and improve inclusiveness in their work environment. The GDIS helps identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement.  The survey measures five aspects of inclusiveness:

  • Interpersonal Environment
  • Hiring and Retention
  • Protection from Bias
  • Supportive Administration
  • Support for Diverse Study

The GDIS is an easy-to-use and accessible tool that can help departments proactively create a more inclusive environment. The survey is self-administered and is available in Qualtrics, google forms, and printable formats.

In addition to guidance on assessing inclusiveness, once the survey is complete, the rest of this website can provide guidance on actionable steps departments can take to improve inclusiveness.

By using the GDIS, university departments can gain valuable insights into the inclusiveness of their department and create an improvement plan. The tool is designed to help departments take ownership of their inclusiveness efforts and create positive change.  We strongly recommend collaboration with administrative officials pertinent to your department (for example, the Academic Dean’s office) before embarking on the assessment.
