Lucas Morel

John K. Boardman, Jr. Professor of Politics and Head of the Politics Department ∙ Washington and Lee University

Dr. Lucas Morel is head of the department of politics and a core faculty member of the Africana Studies program. His research focuses on American political thought, with a particular focus on Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.


Fellowship Project:  Researching how W&L can promote intellectual diversity and civic education by examining how other schools have done so through various initiatives, institutes, and centers. The aim is to improve the education of our undergraduate and law school students by adapting what has worked at other schools, both in content and pedagogy, to the unique setting of W&L as a small, private, liberal arts college.
