Resource: Technologies, Pedagogies, and Best Practices for Teaching Chinese Online: A Workshop for ACS Chinese Language and Content Course Instructors

Facilitated by Zhengbin “Richard” Lu (Spelman), Hongchu Fu (Washington & Lee), Carl Robertson (Southwestern) and Li Wei (Rollins)

Given the drastic differences of Mandarin Chinese from alphabetic languages, such as English and Spanish, switching from face-to-face instruction to online instruction poses more challenges for Chinese language instructors. This workshop aims to help ACS Chinese language and content course instructors to gain familiarity with an array of digital tools for both synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning, and to explore pedagogies that can effectively motivate and engage students in online learning. Participants will also be able to discuss strategies to strengthen the Chinese programs on their campuses amidst these challenging times.
