ACS Condemnation of Threats on HBCU Campuses

The Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) stands in solidarity with the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).  At least 14 HBCU campuses, including ACS member institution Spelman College, were disrupted and terrorized by bomb threats in the first two days of February, a month that marks the celebration of Black History Month.

Ethnically and racially motivated crimes like this not only threaten the safety of our communities, but they serve as painful reminders of how necessary and important it is that colleges and universities nationwide continue to make strides toward diversity, equity and inclusion. Our ACS member institutions are committed to these ideals and will continue to provide academic and experiential opportunities on our campuses that combat racism and continually promote, support, celebrate and protect diverse communities.  We especially extend our concern, appreciation, and support to our HBCU colleagues and friends during these difficult times.

The Associated Colleges of the South is a higher education consortium whose membership includes 16 residential liberal arts colleges  – Birmingham-Southern College (AL), Centenary College (LA), Centre College (KY), Davidson College (NC), Furman University (SC), Hendrix College (AR), Millsaps College (MS), Morehouse College (GA), Rhodes College (TN), University of Richmond (VA), Rollins College (FL), Sewanee: The University of the South (TN), Southwestern University (TX), Spelman College (GA), Trinity University (TX), Washington and Lee University (VA).
