Centre College Chief Information Officer Andrew Ryan Announces Retirement

Andrew Ryan

Centre College’s Executive Director of Information Technology Services (ITS) and Chief Information Officer Andrew Ryan has announced he will retire at the end of the school year.

Ryan joined the Centre staff in 2017 after serving 32 years in the U.S. Air Force, including 25 as an officer. He worked in 10 states and five countries, notably serving as deputy for the Defense Information Systems Agency operations at Fort George Mead in Maryland, where he oversaw more than 3,700 military, government and contract personnel.

With Ryan as executive director, Centre’s Information Technology Services department established annual tests and assurance trainings while investing in and modernizing security through products like Proofpoint, Eduroam and Lockbox and establishing a multi-factor authentication service for the College.

“I have loved working with Andy. He has brought so much to Centre, from his expertise in technology to his exceptional leadership skills honed during his distinguished career in the military,” said College Dean Ellen Goldey. “Under Andy’s leadership, our ITS team has thrived, working collaboratively and collegially, while continuously updating their skills to stay on the cutting edge of constantly evolving technologies. When you have such a capable leader, you can count on a high-functioning team.”

Associate Director of ITS Shane Wilson will serve as the interim chief information officer.

Shane Wilson

“We’re thrilled that Shane can step into this leadership position,” Goldey said. “His experience at Centre is invaluable and I’m certain the ITS team will continue to succeed under his guidance.”

Wilson, who joined Centre’s ITS staff in 1996, has deep expertise in data management, telecommunications and network security. Wilson also assisted in managing data and telecommunications for two separate vice-presidential debates at Centre.

Wilson is recognized as an IT leader in the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU) and through national organizations like the Research and Education Networks Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC). At Centre, Wilson has led the ITS department in establishing a Virtual Security Operations Center for 24-hour campus infrastructure monitoring, while helping the College transition services to cloud-based platforms like Microsoft Office 365.
