Enhancing Interdisciplinary Programs: Rural–Urban Experiences & Cultural Exchanges

Working Group Facilitators: Shewanee Howard-Baptiste (Berea), Mary Robert Garrett (Berea), Rachel Bowser (Agnes Scott), & Doug Fantz (Agnes Scott)

Description: Agnes Scott College and Berea College members partnered to strengthen pathways for graduate study and faculty collaboration while deepening institutional exchange between the two campuses. The partnership established graduate admission pathways for Berea students in mental health counseling and medical science, creating new opportunities for students in Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology to pursue advanced study at Agnes Scott. Faculty also developed shared research infrastructure and new mechanisms for interdisciplinary collaboration across both institutions, while a two-day campus visit brought together academic departments and senior leadership to foster continued exchange and collaboration between the rural Appalachian and urban women’s college communities.
