Welcome to the The Associated Colleges of the South events calendar.
Diversity Advocates Workshop
September 9 @ 8:00 am – September 11 @ 12:00 pm EDT
The member institutions of the Associated Colleges of the South continue to affirm their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by working to increase the diversity of their faculty and staff. In an effort to support our member institution’s efforts, the ACS will host a train-the-trainer retreat for faculty and staff searches on September 9-11 in Atlanta, GA. This two-day retreat, funded through our ACS/Mellon grant, will be a mix of workshops, panels, and interactive sessions intended to help you develop or enhance your institution’s “Diversity Advocate” training by familiarizing participants with research-informed best practices for conducting faculty and staff searches, while providing specific resources and techniques for recognizing and mitigating common barriers to successfully diversifying your institution’s faculty and staff. Additionally, participants will have the ability to reflect on how faculty and staff searches fit within their larger institutional strategic goals and to build out a network of ACS administrators, faculty and staff for consultation and resource sharing.
We will encourage institutions to send a team of participants comprised of the individual(s) responsible for overseeing the faculty and staff search process and any faculty, staff, or administrators who have interest in providing workshops for members of future faculty or staff searches.
Because of the inherent differences in faculty and staff searches, the retreat will move between large plenary sessions for all participants, and two separate tracks for specific strategies of either faculty or staff searches. The entire group of participants will form a networking group for shared resources.
