Developing as a Department Chair: Cultivating an Academic Leadership Mindset

Recognizing that each college has its own policies, processes, and culture, this session will provide new and incoming department chairs with the opportunity to develop the “mindset” of a successful academic leader. This workshop is directed toward new(ish) department chairs with two years (or fewer) of experience who seek to gain greater awareness of their personal leadership styles and the complex responsibilities of mid-level administration. Through a series of interactive case studies and brainstorming exercises, participants will begin to identify the skills, dispositions, and resources that will help them thrive in their role.
